BRITISH COUNCIL ETHIOPIA: Request for Proposal (RFP)
The British Council builds connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and other countries through arts and culture, education, and the English language. We help young people to gain the skills, confidence, and connections they are looking for to realise their potential and to participate in strong and inclusive communities. We support them to learn English, to get a high-quality education and to gain internationally recognised qualifications. Our work in arts and culture stimulates creative expression and exchange and nurtures creative enterprise.
We work on the ground in more than 100 countries. In 2019-20 we connected with 80 million people directly and with 791 million people overall, including online and through our broadcasts and publications. Founded in 1934, we are a UK charity governed by Royal Charter and a UK public body. Further information can be viewed at www.britishcouncil.org.
We are in the process of launching a three-year project called the University Partnerships in Peace Education and Research (UPPER) which supports a generation of young university graduates, particularly women, to participate more effectively in peace processes, conflict prevention and peace building initiatives. It does this by enabling universities in Ethiopia and Sudan to provide contextual and relevant peace education for their students and by strengthening their peace research activities in collaboration with local, regional and international partners. This project is implemented by the British Council and co-funded by the European Union and the British Council.
This procurement focuses on Ethiopia and culminates into two different consultancies under lots 1 and 2 in the following areas:
1.Cultural political economy sector analysis of higher education and its role in peace education and research in Ethiopia
The purpose of this consultancy is to provide an analysis of the political, economic and cultural context in which the project operates in Ethiopia by examining the relationships and structures of and between key project partners, stakeholders and beneficiaries (described below) associated with developing and delivering peace education in universities.
2.Mapping of peace building activities, organisations and networks in Ethiopia
The purpose of this consultancy is to support the initial phase of the project by conducting a detailed mapping and analysis of the organisations, universities and other actors in Ethiopia and their activities in 1) peace building capacity-building, training and education (particularly involving youth), and 2) their involvement in peace and conflict research, at local, national, regional and international levels. The mapping will also identify existing communities of practice, networks and platforms currently being used in Ethiopia for knowledge sharing in peace building.
British Council Ethiopia therefore invites interested applicants to submit Request for Proposal for: Consultancy Services for the activities of the University Partnerships for Peace Education and Research Project (UPPER) in accordance with the Request for Expression of Interest Pack available from British Council’s e-Tendering portal hosted at https://in-tendhost.co.uk/britishcouncil and https://ethiopia.britishcouncil.org/
