Call for media promotion on the reduction and redistribution of unpaid care and domestic works loads from women and girls
Oxfam is a global movement of millions of people who share the belief that, in a world rich in resources, poverty isn’t inevitable. In Ethiopia since the early 1970s, Oxfam has been predominantly working to address the underlying causes of poverty and marginalization by focusing on developing sustainable livelihoods, providing water and sanitation, agriculture, climate resilience, gender justice, and humanitarian responses. Currently, Oxfam in Ethiopia is implementing its 10 years’ country strategy and extended its’ programs in to six program components as; Sustainable food and climate change, Humanitarian response and resilience, Gender justice, Urban development, Youth for future and the Right to be heard (accountability and governance).
Oxfam is seeking media broadcasting agencies or digital media platforms to engage on broadcasting positive messages to change the negative narratives, and the workloads from the women and girls would like to encourage female and male gender champions as well as identifying selected issue (such as the advantages of child day care services in public areas including at government sectors and community level) in reducing the workloads from mothers. And once it is well understood and shared, it will be easier to contribute to women’s empowerment and gender equality to the a larger extent.
