Journalists in Ethiopia have the chance to apply to attend and to be fully sponsored to go to South
Africa to attend the 18th African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC 2022) from October 31-
02 November 2022, taking place in Johannesburg.
The Fojo-IMS Ethiopia programme is happy to announce that we will offer a full sponsorship to a limited number of Ethiopian journalists to attend (in person) the AIJC22. The conference will offer network opportunities, master class trainings, events, and inspiring talks. The conference will be conducted in English and French. More information at www.aijc.africa
The call is open to Ethiopian journalists with a proven track record in investigative journalism who want to develop their skills and network with their colleagues. The sponsorship will cover flights to Johannesburg, airport transfers, accommodation in single rooms, transport to and from the conference, meals, and conference fees as well as home-country transport and visa costs.
How to apply?
To apply: submit a short motivation letter stating how your attendance will benefit your journalistic work in Ethiopia (max 400 words) in English, submit your CV and send links to at least one example of your published or broadcasted work in Ethiopia (prior to May 1, 2022) to email@example.com and/ firstname.lastname@example.org at the latest 28th July 2022. Journalists working in all regional states for print, broadcast or online media qualify. The call is also opened to affiliated freelance journalists.
If you are selected, you will be asked to write at least one article arising out of the conference and participate in a learning event taking place in Addis Ababa after the conference.
Participants will require a passport valid for a minimum of six months after the conference.
All applications will be acknowledged on receipt and a final decision on places will be made by 15 August 2022. We will get in touch if only you are shortlisted for the sponsorship.
