Empowering Communities – Coffee as Model for Ecosystem-Friendly Regional Development’

For more than hundred years, The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) has been promoting the interests of people and nature, drawing on its unwavering
commitment, specialized know-how and the backing of 820,000 members and supporters. NABU is Germany’s oldest and largest conservation NGO with its headquarter in the capital and 15 regional branch offices in almost every federal state of Germany. It has over 2,000 volunteer groups around the country that support NABU’s work.

For many years, NABU has also been internationally active, particularly in Africa, the Caucasus and Asia. Since 2010 NABU is registered as international NGO in Ethiopia, and has gained a wide-ranging experience in the implementation of projects in the country. NABU has supported the Ethiopian government on the designation of Kafa Biosphere Reserve and Lake Tana Biosphere Reserve, aiming to preserve the natural assets and ecosystem services of the country. NABU has been active in Kafa, Sheka and Bench Sheko Zones of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State, Lake Tana watershed in the Amhara National Regional State (ANRS) and Yayu Biosphere Reserve (BR) in Oromia Regional State.

Empowering Communities – Coffee as Model for Ecosystem-Friendly Regional Development’ is a recently running project in Yayu BR in Oromia region operating in four woredas namely Algae Sachi, Bilo Nopa, Hurumu and Yayu. For the project, NABU is looking for a qualified and well experienced consultant on Business Plan Development and Value Chains Training for project stakeholders and farmers to build the capacity of stakeholders, project staff, and farmers’ representatives on upgrading/improving local businesses/firms and the ability to collectively create a competitive value chain that contributes to economic growth and poverty reduction. The training will further provide stakeholders with the information they need to develop and take ownership of a strategy to compete in particular markets.
