Background
The Public-Private Partnership for Artificial Insemination Delivery (PAID) project, implemented by Land O’Lakes Venture37, is a project that works to address genetics constraints to dairy productivity growth in Amhara, Oromia, SNNP and Tigray regions of Ethiopia by strengthening Artificial Insemination (AI) service delivery through public-private partnership (PPP). The project has been working to establish financially sustainable, more efficient, and effective private channels for the delivery of AI and related dairy cattle development services and stimulate significant private investments leading to the inclusive growth of Ethiopia’s dairy sector.
Private Sector Company Profile
- 1. Company A: It is registered in Addis Ababa and operates in Oromia, Amhara, Sidama and SNNP regional states through its distributing agents and private AI technician Company A focuses on improving dairy cattle productivity through technology use and creating demand for imported conventional/unsexed and sexed semen in urban and per-urban areas where market oriented and commercial small-, medium-, and large-scale dairy farms are concentrated. The company is also engaged in veterinary drugs and equipment importation and distribution business.
- 2. Company B: The company is based in Addis Ababa and operates in several regions of the country using its own distribution shops and agent Its major businesses are importation and distribution of livestock farming equipment and inputs; veterinary equipment, drugs, chemicals, and reagents; Artificial Insemination; and dairy processing and laboratory equipment and supplies.
Purpose of the Assignment
The individual consultant is expected to undertake the following assignment within the given timeframe.
- 1. Review all relevant operational and financial documents of the firm
- 2. Assess working facilities and human power status (with qualifications) in relation to the term of references
- 3. Through review of available documents and direct conversation with the private firm, verify the existence of clearly stated vision, mission, goals, and time bound strategic implementation roadmap of the firm
- 4. Evaluate the capacity, performance, and achievement of the private firm in meeting its business vision, mission, and goals according to its strategic implementation roadmap
- 5. Undertake cost-benefit analysis of the private firm’s financial performance
- 6. Working closely with the management and other key staffs, identify major strengths and weaknesses/limitations of the firm in implementing its planned business activities according to the firm’s strategic implementation roadmap
- 7. Identify areas of improvement that need intervention for the firm to remain competitive in the market and impactful in the sector
- 8. Propose feasible work plan along with the required facilities, human power requirements, and implementation modalities and strategies that can boost the firm’s business, while strengthening its strategic alliance with relevant potential partners
- 9. Understanding how the firm operates, firm’s strengths and weaknesses, areas of improvements as well as existing and new business opportunities, draw feasible recommendations that help the firm to make a visible and meaningful improvement in its cash flow (profitability) and impact in the country’s dairy industry
- 10. Prepare a report in the form of a working document focusing on strengths, limitations, areas
of improvement along with the required actions to take that help the firm to be financially in a better position so that it can produce even a higher impact in the country’s dairy sector development.
Qualifications and desired attributes
- 1. Advanced degree in business management or related fields
- 2. At least five years related/relevant experience in both public and private sector Experience in livestock development related business is a plus
- 3. Excellent interpersonal skills, critical thinking, rational judgment, excellent communication skills, training experience, ability to identify and resolve key operational constrain
- 4. Skill in team working, partnership development, and independently delivering expected outcomes
- 5. Excellent writing and presentation skills in Amharic and English
- 6. Knowledge on the Ethiopia’s dairy sector in general and livestock input/output market systems is an added value.
- 7. Past proven consultancy or advisory service experience that brought positive impact on the efficiency, productivity and profitability of relevant private firms is essential
Duration of contract: 45 days (August 8 to September 22, 2022)
